The Gift War Series Overview
Loren Little debuted with her steamy dark fantasy romance book A House of Cloaks & Daggers in February 2025 after releasing it to a group of early readers in November 2024. Affectionately known as AHOCAD, this book is the first glimpse into a world of danger, secrets, and betrayal with a cast of dreamy and highly relatable characters who each have an ambiguous set of morals and motives. It is perfect for mature readers who love political intrigue mixed with open-door spice and love a vibrant, complex world without all the lengthy pages of heavy world-building to get there.
The next instalment in this series is A Palace of Smoke & Mirrors and this book was published in August 2025. Following this, an announcement will be made for the next book slated for 2026.
The series is plotted for four main books following the same characters as they fight against mutual enemies, each other, and ultimately their own selves. The series is expected to include between 1-3 companion novels which spin-off into other eras of the same world and explore the lives of different characters in greater depth. Loren is trying to write a novella, but she is finding it IMPOSSIBLE somewhat challenging to keep her word count in check.
The series is written in first person past tense, and Loren uses British/Australian English. Regrettably, you will have to pry the letter U out of her freezing cold hands alongside a pocketful of em dashes.
Please check the trigger warnings before picking up this series as these books are dark in both tone and theme. While some readers may feel these books are quite mild, it is okay if they aren’t for you.
